At Street Church tonight, I was struck by the mix of people we had coming together to worship God and be in community. It was such a diverse group of all different races, economical statuses, and ages. It was great to have a 9-year-old as our “drummer boy”, a young man who recently decided to give his life to Christ preachin’ it, a woman drumming on a trash can, an older man thankful for his Christmas present: although private about what the gift was, it was what he wanted and it made his night.

That just being a small glimpse of the conglomeration, to hear this group of people lifting their voices to praise God was a beautiful sound, and something I am thankful for as I left Street Church tonight.

Last thought, one of our friends from Street Church, Paul, has recently moved to Southern California and I miss his presence already.

Well, to start our Street Church blog is a posting about Christmas. Tonight we came together as we always do for food, friendship, and prayer. (Thanks to Kevin for picking up the food and Robert and others for serving it) But tonight was a little different as we also were focused on celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, our savior. Chris, “Shoe,” spoke to us about calling out to God for his help and realizing that God comes to us when we ask him to–and we don’t have to earn his love he gives it freely. We sang Silent Night, Away in a Manger, The Little Drummer Boy (with a beat bounced on the top of the garbage) and the other classics. Thanks to Debbie and Christina each person who came received a gift, too. We had many join our chorus and guests come to eat with us! Tonight we also got to meet Hope and her three kids. They were all great. The celebration continues on Thursday and we also will be serving a meal next week on Tuesday, the 25th, too.
